Full House At GDPR Presentation In Mid Ulster
On Wednesday 16th May 2018, we co-hosted a highly successful event ”GDPR Ready? ARE YOU PREPARED?”. The event was planned in partnership with Mid Ulster District Council and Cookstown Enterprise to support local businesses with the introduction of New GDPR legislation, which takes place on Friday 25th May 2018. In attendance we had 139 people attend from local businesses, all interested to hear how to prepare for the upcoming GDPR deadline.
We had a very informative presentation from Mark Raine of Prestige Business Solutions. Mark gave a professional overview of the implications of the new legislation and how it could impact on day to day trading, what changes GDPR will bring, policies to be put in place and key terminology. We also heard from local businessman Con Gallagher of Spectrum Employment Solutions Cookstown who shared with the audience how he was putting policies into place, making decisions on what data he needed and shredding unnecessary data he could store digitally. Con also shared how he and his employees were taking actions to prepare for the upcoming deadline of 25th May, even considering how data is managed by their customers. He gave assurances that if businesses take it one step at a time they will be able to manage GDPR in their business and the key was not to panic.
Businesses then had opportunity to ask questions, which enabled participants to get responses to their concerns and clarify their understanding. Participants were encouraged to start working their way through the 11 point plan and glossary of terms provided at the event. Both Mark and Con kindly made themselves available for further questions from attendees. The event was a great success and we wish local businesses every success as they go forward developing policies and processes in line with GDPR legislative requirements.
