Enterprise Week in Mid Ulster

Plenty of enterprise on show this week in the Mid Ulster area with the Annual Magherafelt Chamber of Commerce Business Breakfast taking place on Monday – guest speakers included John McGrillen, Chief Executive or Tourism NI and Alistair Hamilton, Chief Executive of Invest NI. On Tuesday our female Business Advisors attended the Bank of Ireland Women in Business seminar, held at the Terrace hotel in Magherafelt, where over 50 local female entrepreneurs came together to network and mark enterprise week. Also on Tuesday we held a Taste of Enterprise workshop at The Auction Room in Maghera. Here our Business Advisors delivered a presentation on self employment and enterprise and spoke with a range of people interested in starting their own business. On Thursday and Friday it was the turn of the local schools where enterprise workshops were held in St PiusX  College and the Northern Regional College.

Throughout the week it was very evident that the Mid Ulster area has great entrepreneurial spirit and at The Chamber of Commerce seminar on Monday Alistair Hamiliton of Invest NI acknowledged this, and stated that the new Mid Ulster Council area is one of most entrepreneurial in Northern Ireland with an average of 163 business starts per 10,000 population. This is well above the NI average of 105 business starts per 10,000 population.
